The Monroe United Methodist Church was started in 1835, meeting in homes and having a circuit rider come
once a month to conduct services and call on the immediate families. In 1852 the parishioners decided to build a permanent
home located just South of Monroe Ctr. Rd. on the East side of Rt. 7. It is still active today. Early
Ministers were Rev. Summerfield, Rev. John P. Kent.
In 1956 a basement was added.
In 1961, the Hammond's Corners Aid Society became inactive and donated their church bell.
In 1965, it was sided, the sanctuary was paneled, & new lighting was added.
In 1989 a wheelchair ramp was added.
In 1993 a nursery was added along with an addition to the back of the church including the expansion of
othe basement with a side entrance & enlarging the foyer.
