Mr. Smith was a farmer and small-business man. He was employed by Ashtabula Rubber Co. & Millennium Inorganic Chemcals of Ash. Twp. He had many small businesses over the years, including Smith's Meat Market and an Upholstery Shop. He also owned and operated Sheffield Filter, where he washed, repaired and constructed filter cloths, and started a tarp and awning business. He was a life long committee member of the Pioneer Picnic of Pierpont, Oh. He served with the Auxiliary Police Force, was a member of the Sheffield Grange, and was on the official board of the Conneautville, Pa, Methodist Church. He enjoyed raising and showing a team of oxen. He enjoyed the art of rug weaving during his retirement years which he sold at various local festivals. He had an avid interest in covered bridges, which spanned back to his father's involvement with the construction of the Graham Road Covered Bridge in 1913, the year Mr. Smith was born.
